To be transparent: I have only listened to ‘Midnights’ 1.5 times and have not touched it since the night it came out.

One of the only songs that stuck out to me on Midnights was “Anti-Hero”. Like… “Did you hear my covert narcissism I disguise as altruism/ Like some kind of congressman?” or “Too big to hang out, slowly lurching toward your favorite city/Pierced through the heart, but never killed” That’s good stuff!!
I appreciated the cheeky, semi-self aware attitude that the song was giving. I thought it worked and found it pretty compelling, maybe even refreshing.
Alas, Taylor has made this song a single. Alas alas, every time for what feels like every day, I open Instagram, and I’m greeted with ANOTHER remix. MAKE IT STOP.
The whole thing feels a bit ironic. Taylor’s comments on the track poking fun at herself fall completely flat as I watch her promote the ever living hell out of it. Making it?? danceable?? because??? I guess we asked for that???
I’ve gone from lukewarm on Midnights to actively beginning to resent it. Watching one of the biggest artists in the world play the game of infinite remixes to game the charts makes me want to crawl in a hole and not come out.
I understand this is nothing new (ha) for Taylor (or anyone in the industry!), but coming from someone who already wasn’t onboard with Midnights (as a concept or a branding campaign? you decide.), watching Taylor shill for this song makes me bitter. It’s already dark at 4pm; I don’t need anymore bitterness.
